Supplements That Fight Colon Cancer

The vitamin folate has been shown to stop cancers where they first start which is at the DNA level. New research from UCLA found that vitamin B6 is necessary for folate to become a more effective cancer fighter. In this study of 1,000 people, those who had colorectal polyps removed and added folate to their diets had a reduction of recurrences of 39%. With the addition of vitamin B6 the risk went down another 35%.

To stop the growth of polyps when they are discovered you need to be taking 1,200 mg per day of calcium carbonate. This study in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute found that the people taking calcium supplements had a 2/3 reduction in growth. The most profound impact was on advanced polyps. So…make sure your multivitamin has folate and vitamin B6 in it to stop the polyp from starting and take extra calcium to stop those that start to grow.

Sprouts That Can Be Great For You

There's a compound found in a type of sprout called BroccoSprouts that contains a chemical called SGS which helps prevent breast and colon cancer. Johns Hopkins University researchers found three-day-old sprouts contained 20 times more SGS than mature broccoli. This means 1/2 cup of BroccoSprouts is the equivalent of 3 cups of cooked broccoli.

TAKE A MULTI VITAMIN!

A 15-year study of almost 90,000 women showed that those who took a multivitamin daily had 75% less chance of developing colon cancer than whose who didn't pop one (Annals of Internal Medicine, Oct. 1, 1998). I recommend taking a high potency multi-vitamin for optimum wellness - one that when you read the label has many ingredients listed at 50 mg.

POWER OF VITAMIN E

I'm talking about Vitamin E.  In recent years, there have been a number of reports on the power of Vitamin E.

1.  Diabetes - A study of people taking 800 IU's of E per day had a significant drop in blood sugar levels.
2.  Colon cancer - Those with the highest intake of E had almost a 75% lower risk of having the precursors of colon cancer.
3.  Parkinson's Disease - A study in the Netherlands reported that high levels of E were linked to a low incidence of Parksinson's in the 5,300 people in the study.
4.  Alzheimer's - Scientists at Columbia University gave mid-stage Alzheimer's patients 2,000 IU's of E.  The vitamins seemed to slow deterioration by 25% in the ability to do everyday tasks.
5.  Age-related immune system increase - A study was done to see if E could improve the immunity of people over 65.  The results of 200 mg per day was a 65% increase in immune response and a 600% increase against Hepatitis B.

So, how much should you take?  I'd recommend 400-800 IU's per day.  When you buy Vitamin E, you have to read the small print to determine if it's natural (which is what you want) vs. synthetic.  If it says d-alpha, it's natural.
If it says dl-alpha, it's synthetic.  The product with the letter "l" is what you want to avoid.
