How to Stop Macular Degeneration

The words Macular Degeneration (MD) are not pleasant words since MD can lead to a person becoming totally blind. That happened to one of my Aunts.

Well, there are now several things you can do for yourself to stop Macular Degeneration.

The first thing is simple and it’s to exercise. Researchers have found that regular exercise reduces the overgrowth of blood vessels in the eyes that occurs with MD by around 45%. This can make the difference between losing your sight or not.

The researchers from the University of Virginia School of Medicine found that all it takes is what they called low levels of exercise to stop MD. They think the reason exercise works is because it increases blood flow to the eyes.

The second method is a new one on me. It’s using a small LED light with a deep red beam according to researchers from University College London.

They recommend using the light for 3 minutes every day. They found this can even reverse eyesight that has started to deteriorate. The researchers found that a person’s ability to see vision contrasts improved by 20% just by using the LED light for a few weeks.

It seems that your retina’s cells age faster than any other cells in the body which can lead to a 70% reduction in the retina cell’s ability to function. The researchers believe that the LED light is rebooting the retina cell’s ability to function the way it’s supposed to.

So…I’m going to stop writing now, so I can walk to the store and buy the LED light to aid my vision! Or you can do it the unexercising way and do a Google search for “a small LED light with a deep red beam.”

Stopping Macular Degeneration The Vitamin Way

For a long time, it looked like patients with macular degeneration were being sentenced to a life of losing their vision and going blind since there was no way to stop it. Now, a study published by the National Eye Institute has found that vitamin supplements are the best way to stop macular degeneration. The suggestions are to take daily doses of Vitamin C - 500 mg, Vitamin E - 400 IU, Beta Carotene - 15 mg, Zinc Oxide - 80 mg, and Cupric Oxide - 2 mg. As a reader of this report, you are aware I recommend higher doses for achieving optimum health. You can search my archives of past issues to find out the specific recommendations. New Hope For Macular Degeneration

As reported in Alternatives, Dr. Merrill Allen of the University Of Indiana School Of Optometry has been treating patients for the dry for of macular degeneration and his results have been miraculous. He's been using a combination of nutritional supplements and a TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator) device. A TENS device delivers a specific electrical current to an area of the body and has been used for years to help stop lower back pain.

Dr. Allen has been seen a dramatic improvement his patients. The scientist believes that the treatment both improves blood flow to the eye and appears to trigger regrowth of the retina and photoreceptors in the eye.

Your Waistline Can Affect Your Vision

A recent study reported in AARP found that age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which can cause blindness, has a link to your waistline. Male subjects in the study who had mild AMD and a waistline of more than 40 inches had double the risk of moving onto advanced AMD. For women, the risk doubled when the waistline was more than 34.6 inches.
