Prevention Magazine reported that researchers at Seattle's Center for Health Studies compared three different therapies with people who had persistent back pain. The therapies were massage therapy, acupuncture and self-care. The best approach was massage which cut the need for painkillers by 36%. While the massage techniques compared included Swedish, deep-tissue, Shiatsu, and neuromuscular, the effects were all similar.
So...if you can't stop your back pain, get a certified massage therapist to do some rubbing on your back. A little rubbing seems to go a long way towards pain relief.
