Today, nutrition is being used as never before both to prevent and to heal damage to the nervous system.  Can a dietary mineral have any role to play in promoting recovery from serious head injury?
A test was done by a medical group at the University of Kentucky and Lexington Virginia Medical Center in which this has been found to be the case.  Over a period of more than three years, 60 head-injury patients were given either the normal amount of zinc found in hospital food or about five times that much by supplementation.  A month after the accidents, the zinc-supplemented patients had significantly higher scores, indicating faster recovery from injury.  Zinc is not something that can be piled on top of an already fine diet to achieve super mental powers, but replacing it when it's low can help turn the mental dial back to normal.

Happy New Year too!
