Protecting Yourself and Loved Ones When You or They Are in the Hospital

If you or a loved one needs to go into the Hospital, the staff may do all kinds of treatments to you, and you may not even be aware of what they are.

It turns out most of the hospital errors that occur involve poor monitoring or management of medical conditions, diagnostic errors, and errors related to surgery and procedures. In addition, most drugs have side-effects that can be harmful to you or your loved one.

You can now protect yourself or a loved one by creating a document called the Caregivers and Consent Document. It’s an advanced decision document that tells the hospital staff what they can and can’t do to you. They are legally required to follow your decisions and it goes into effect as soon as you enter the hospital.

You’ll need to complete and sign the document and mail it to the CEO of the hospital as the CEO is responsible for all legal business related to the hospital. You’ll want to require that the document be entered into your medical records. You’ll also want to bring 10 copies that are signed and notarized with you to hand out to the staff and docs that are working on your case.

You’ll also want to designate someone to take the documents to the hospital in case you are unconscious.

Having this document puts you back in the driver’s seat for controlling what’s going on and how it will affect your health.

You can find the documents you’ll need at OurPatientRights.com.

You’ll even have a clause in it that will say "All items in this Caregivers and Consent document shall remain in effect unless I choose to revoke in writing; no one else may alter or amend this Caregivers and Consent document." This will protect you from the staff wanting you to give them verbal agreement to do something not allowed in your document.

For example, you’ll want to know and decide if you want a certain medication before it’s given to you. Here’s the language in the document:

“I do not consent to the use of medications without my being informed of each medication’s risks, benefits, and alternatives before they are ordered. Only after that information is communicated shall I choose to either grant consent or to not grant consent for each and every medication that is ordered.”

Here are a couple of clauses that you might want to add to your document.

The first one is covering and protecting yourself from how bad hospital food is. There have been studies in the past that report that hospital patients can leave the hospital malnourished! The second clause lets you keep doing what you’re doing nutritionally as opposed to having your regular supplements immediately cut off.

“I do not consent to receiving ANY processed food, such as high-fructose corn syrup or seed oils. The only acceptable oil for me is butter, ghee, beef tallow or coconut oil. Acceptable forms of protein would be eggs, lamb, bison, beef, or non-farmed seafood; but they must not be prepared with seed oils. If the hospital is unable to provide this food for me, my family or friends will bring it for me.”

Additionally, I do not consent to not being able to take my normal supplements and homeopathic remedies while in the hospital.”

So…take a look at the website to see how you can take charge of yours and a loved one’s care!
