I’ve written before about the powerful benefits of taking Vitamin D3. I want to now tell you about its ability to fight cancer, but first I want to share a short list of how D3 can benefit you overall.

1. It creates stronger bones by helping the body absorb calcium. You also want to take Vitamin K2 which makes sure the calcium winds up being deposited in the right places in the body. 

2. It Improves immune function by regulating the activity of immune cells. Adequate vitamin D3 levels have been associated with lower rates of respiratory infections and autoimmune disorders.

3. Vitamin D3 may improve a person’s mood and reduce symptoms of depression.

4. Adequate vitamin D3 has been associated with lower rates of certain chronic diseases, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and multiple sclerosis.

5. Supplementing with vitamin D3 may improve muscle strength and reduce the risk of falls in older adults.

So, now let’s add in cancer and Vitamin Ds impact. A study published in 2020 called the Vitamin D and Omega-3 Trial (VITAL) found that healthy people who took 2,000 IUs a day of Vitamin D3 did not have a lower rate of cancer than those taking a placebo.

Now, before you go huh that the rate didn’t go down, let’s look at the next part of the researcher’s findings where they looked at the people who did get cancer and they discovered that was where the differences occurred. 

The people who were taking the 2,000 units of D a day had a 17% lower chance of being diagnosed with metastatic cancer or from dying from their cancer. 

This is a dramatic difference in stopping cancer from spreading and causing deaths. Since the study only looked at what happened over 5.3 years, the results may be even more dramatic over an even longer period of time.

While they measured the participants level of Vitamin D in their blood at the beginning of the study and allowed people in who had very low levels of D in their blood of 20 ng/ml, they considered 25 ng.ml to be normal, I actually recommended people aim for a much higher level of around 60 ng/ml in their blood. 

BTW, you can only tell your level of Vitamin D with a blood test. I just had a blood test last week and my level of D came in at 76 ng/ml. 

It appears then that the unanswered question is would having much higher levels of D in the body, reduce the metastatic cancer rate and death rate even further?

So…Vitamin D supplement anyone?
