Teens May Actually Not be Completely Responsible

MRI brain scans were performed on healthy children and teens in order to track the way the brain matures from ages 5 to 20. The National Institute of Mental Health and the UCLA researchers found that a "higher-order" brain center, such as the prefrontal cortex, doesn't fully develop until young adulthood. This means reasoning and other "executive" functions are the last to mature. So...when your teenager is being unreasonable, it may be because reasoning hasn't come online in that part of the brain yet. Just hope they'll hit 19 or 20 real soon.

OUR BRAINS KEEP GROWING

Most of us have thought our brains stop growing before age 20. Well, researchers at the US Department of Veteran Affairs reported that that's true for the brain's gray matter. However, it's another matter with the white matter of the brain. It continues to grow until around age 48.

The gray matter came be thought of as a computer while the white matter is the high speed internet lines that connect your computer with all others on the planet. That certainly makes our brain much more powerful than we've thought before.
