With The New Covid Variant Spreading, The Importance Of Protecting Yourself Has Increased

I wanted to write about a couple of things this week related to the new Covid Omicron Variance BA.5.

As you may be aware this new COVID virus is attacking people who have already been fully vaccinated.
The reports indicate that the cases are mild, at this point. It also spreads more easily.

So, what can you do to protect yourself whether or not you have been fully vaccinated? The answer is simple and inexpensive. It’s to make sure you have a Vitamin D level in your body that is over 60 ng/ml. There’s now a lot of research out there showing how much lower the infection rate is for people with high levels of Vitamin D in their system.

The only way you can determine what your Vitamin D level is by having a blood test done.

Years ago, when I had my blood tested for the first time for Vitamin D, I was at 13 ng/ml – way below what it needed to be. To get it up to its current level which is 76 ng/ml (based on the blood test I had a few weeks ago) At ng/ml, I needed to take Vitamin D3 supplements. For me I needed to take an additional 7,200 ng/ml per day, which is just three tiny capsules spread out over the course of the day.

Now, you may be asking the question since cases are mild why bother with Vitamin D and just tough it out if you get COVID.

The answer comes from a research study published in Nature where the researchers found that even mild COVID may cause brain changes!

This key to the study was that they had brain scans of the people before they got COVID and afterwards.

There were 800 people in the study, and it was run over 38 months. The images taken showed that the people who got COVID lost grey matter in the parts of the brain related to smell, plus they had a reduction in size to their whole brain.

These mild COVID folks also showed a greater cognitive decline between the two brain scans that were done. Besides the loss of grey matter, they also saw greater tissue damage in the infected participants and had a greater decline in their mental abilities to perform complex tasks. The effects were also stronger in the elderly participants.

While they were still being affected 4.5 months after they were infected, the researchers don’t know if the brain tissue will heal over time.

So…since this variant is spreading rapidly, get yourself tested to determine you Vitamin D level and start taking supplements, since most American’s Vitamin D level is too low.
